Bright
Eyes
9.30 Club
Washington DC
Live on Jan 29, 2005
Boy wonder Conner
Oberst offers an energetic live performance from a couple of weeks ago
in Washington DC. He fronts Bright Eyes who were part of Bruce Springsteen's
Vote For Change Tour last October. That tour gave the band much exposure
with the mainstream crowd.
Bright Eyes currently
have two albums simultaneously released - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
and Digital Ash In A Digital Urn. Both are in Billboard's Top 20 bestselling
albums chart. It's no small feat for a relatively new band.
Conner Oberst who
is just 24, has been raved about as a "genius", with Rolling Stone calling
him "King of Indie Rock" and has won attention for his prolific output
- he started recording at the age of 12 and already has half a dozen albums
- and distinctive singing style. He tends to over emote - sing/scream
- breaking his voice in the process. He also writes highly detailed songs
and is tune into current affairs [as on When The President Talks To God],
hence his involvement in Vote For Change. Oberst also helped start Saddle
Creek records which releases his albums.
This live concert
at the 9.30 Club includes his pop hit, Lua, from the Wide Awake album.
