Turbonegro
Hultsfredsfestivalen,
Sweden [No Label 1CD]
Live in
Hultsfred, Sweden, June 16, 2005. An FM recording.
Death metal was never
meant to be so funny. Turbonegro, the revived 2002 version, is a Norwegian
Death Metal band who love to dress up in colored wigs, jet-black sunglasses
and blue jeans. Although they officially claim to "spread darkness"
around the world, you cant help but smile, nay laugh even, when
you listen to this fun band play their tough licks and rude songs. Peppered
every which way in the lyrics are four-letter words. Their Fuck The World
was a Top 5 hit in Norway in 2003. Imagine radio blaring that!
On this performance, Ride With Us is what heavy metal is all about. "You
got nothing to lose when everybody hates you," sings Hank From
Hell as he calls the outcst, to "ride with us."
Back at the beginning,
Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys has called their Ass Cobra album one
of the best punk albums from the 90s. As this concert shows, Turbonegro
have now turned on to sailor hats, denim and songs like Rendezvous With
Anus, a not too subtle hint at anal sex. Homosexual Death Metal? We told
you they have a sense of humour. This show from last year is an excellent
FM broadcast in crystal clear stereo. Before they ended up with Turbonegro,
they were an inch away from calling themselves Nazipenis. We have no idea
whose is bigger.
