DEVENDRA
BANHART
Live @ France
Inter's WHITE SESSION
What does he sound
like? Devendra Banhart has long, striking black hair, an impish smile
and a voice that recalls Marc Bolan during his time in Tyrannosaurus Rex,
1968. Even his album titles recall Bolan's My People Were Fair and Had
Sky in Their Hair but Now They're Content To Wear Stars in Their Brows
in its Tolkein style. Banhart uses his voice to great effect. His breathy
voice is quivery during dreamy moments and alternates between a purr and
a growl much like Bolan's elfish mannerisms. Also current Banhart material
are strikingly like early T Rex, acoustic with simple percussion.
