M.I.A.

Hot right now is Sri Lankan babe Mathangi Arulpragasam aka M.I.A., the London-based rapper who has an album, Arular, out now in the US and UK. It’s a hip hop/ jungle/ ethnic mix of dance styles and rap with Galang, Sunshowers and Pull Up The People getting mainstream radio airplay.

The 27-year-old refuses to be co-opted and has stayed indie. She told Billboard, "I’m not going to turn into a pop artist or a tamed down version of what I’m doing." Not 2Fake but 4Real. Which u wanna b? Here’s a recent live radio show performance plus interview on KEXP Seattle, WA, on May 11, 2005.
