Live session broadcast on Sept 12, 2006 for Morning Becomes Eclectic,
Santa Monica, CA.
On the road again
to support her new album, The Greatest, Cat Power has been performing
live for radio and web streams. Here's one show for Morning Becomes Eclectic
with Nic Harcourt aired on Sept 12, the day after the fifth anniversary
of 9/11.
The performances
are so good, Cat Power is offering four tracks from this show for sale
on eMusic as eMusic Session EP. Cat Power aka Chan Marshall performs a
rare solo set on piano and electric guitar. She's excruciatingly shy and
suffers from stage fright. The way her voice slips into House Of The Rising
Sun is so intense that this is well worth investigating. But the killer
track is of course the confessional Hate. The lyrics have always been
too dark.
"I said I hate
myself and I want to die"
It almost came true
earlier this year. But she has since pulled herself together and now she
sings: "Do you believe she said that? [pause] I do not hate
myself and I do not want to die."
Cat was forced off
the road earlier this year because of her dependence on drink. She's better
now and that voice has a sobering effect, yeah? Welcome back.
