Erika Stucky's
Low Life
Bremen 2006
[no label 2CD]
Live on
Sendesaal Radio Bremen, Germany, March 12, 2006.
According to her
website, Erika Stucky was brought up on a diet of hippie picnics in San
Francisco's Golden Gate Park to a flowery soundtrack of the Monkees, Donovan
and Nancy Sinatra while staying with her parents in America. Later when
they moved back to Switzerland, she was exposed to European music booming
from the mountain valleys, "yodelling choruses and polka folk in
traditional Swiss costume with the Valais Alps looming on the horizon".
Trained at the C.I.M.
Jazz School in Paris, Stucky has already released three albums and this
year in May played with Carla Bleys big band and orchestra as Ginger
in the overwrought rock/ jazz musical Escalator Over The Hill.
But for this concert
in Bremen, Stucky took off on a cavalier note with some far-out covers
of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix, Procol Harum and even The Knack. Most
of these tracks which appear here live have been recorded on her three
studio albums.
Her leitmotiv is
to have "serious fun."
