John
Prine
The 5th Peg [no label, 1CD]
WFMT Archives, Chicago, IL.
According to the
notes that came with the disc, "This is the oldest surviving John Prine
recording. This show was recorded sometime in August 1970. Recording originally
sourced from KGNU-FM in Lincoln, NE, labeled 'John Prine Live at the 5th
Peg 1970 WFMT Archives'. WFMT in Chicago has no record of this in their
library, but they say 'hey that was 34 years ago, so who knows'."
The song, Sam Stone, was banned in $ingapore for a long time. The authorities
were concerned it would encourage drug taking.
Thanks to scdegraaf for sharing the tracks.
