BOB DYLAN
Songs For Patty Valentine (outtakes from July 1975)

Not quite what it says on the label, Songs For Patty Valentine is, in fact, a fairly standard compilation of 1975-era songs that are readily available elsewhere. The opening trio of "Pretty Boy Floyd," "How Long" and "Abandoned Love" all hail from the Bottom Line performances in July 1975; elsewhere, the John Hammond TV special serves up "Oh Sister," "Hurricane" and "Simple Twist Of Fate," while the Renaldo & Clara EP is plundered for "People Get Ready," "Never Let Me Go" and "It Ain’t Me Babe." That leaves two studio cuts, the b-side "Rita Mae" and the Bootleg Series "Hurricane" to complete the package and, possibly, leave the purchaser wondering why he or she bothered. - Dave Thompson
