"The Early Beatles has been out before, but I always wanted to have a really good transfer of it and so when the opportunity presented itself to do a new transfer from an original 1st generation tape, I leapt at the chance. I used a very good vhs machine and capture card, and carefully calibrated the input so that the card would not be overloaded by bright whites in the picture (one of the most common and annoying flaws in home made dvds. If the card is overloaded bright scenes assume an overexposed, metallic look).

"Though consisting entirely of B&W footage, Granada decided for some reason to add mild colour tints to much of the special. To be blunt, I thought this looked bloody awful and so applied a grayscale filter to all the footage. I've also added some captions which are switched on by default but can be switched off in the menu. I thought people may find these useful since there is no narration in the programme.

"The remastered audio option uses the commercial mono mixes to bolster the soundtrack where possible. The original soundtracks sound a bit lo-fi and fluttery to me, so this is how I prefer it. But the original soundtrack is there if you want it." - Hob

Beatles - Let It Be [no label 1DVD NTSC] This is the lost film of The Beatles recording in January 1969. It was released as a movie in 1970 and as a laserdisc. This copy is sourced from laserdisc. Out-of-print. Video Ex; Audio Ex SBD stereo. NOT FOR TRADE.

The Beatles - Let It Be: UNCROPPED FULLSCREEN 16mm EDITION [no label 1DVD NTSC demonoid 2625495] "Let It Be was originally conceived as a TV documentary and was thus shot in 4:3 on 16mm stock. Later the decision was made to format it into a feature film, necessitating a pan-and-scan transfer of the 16mm film to a widescreen 35mm frame. The original 4:3 version was then left largely unseen by the public, with most broadcasters opting for the widescreen version or the shrunken 4:3 version released on laserdisc.

"Previously we presented the widescreen theatrical version of the film with a new stereo soundtrack. Here we offer the original uncropped 16mm version from a very high quality German print. The extra picture at the top and bottom gives the film a different feel - more like a documentary and less like a theatrical feature. This version is totally different to the grainy, heavily cropped print released on vhs and laserdisc in 1981, and includes the same remastered stereo soundtrack as the widescreen version. The Beatles - Filmography 3: 1969 [Silent Sea 2 DVD] A "superb" print of Let It Be which includes much more of the original frame image than the VHS release plus every available outtake. We watched this and the pic was cut on the sides missing some of the opening titles. The source is VHS and while quite good does not deserve a "superb" rating. The outtakes are the find here. The Beatles - Rock Band: The Cavern Test DVD [Beatcomber Records 1DVD NTSC? demonoid 2127719] This made in Mexico fan project 2010 is a test disc. There is some skip and jitter on most of the 4 tracks as well as the grand "cinematic intro". Fan paulo said: "The files I have shared you are almost 4 gigs, but when I converted them in vob files (DVD) they use only 900 mb and had some 'mistakes' on video or sound, that why I call it 'test'." Video Ex-; Audio Ex- SBD surround. Widescreen. Nice collection except for the mistakes and the compressed resolution. Hopefully a corrected version will surface.

The Beatles - Abbey Road: The Music Videos [A Beatles TV Production 1DVD PAL demonoid 2424356] Another go at gathering all the video from Rock Band on Abbey Road songs. This version is just the music videos with no game graphics and the audio synch in from Rock Band flac mix. Video VG+ to Ex-; Audio Ex SBD stereo. The video still looks less than brilliant. A bit soft and this comes across much more distinctly in animation.

The Beatles - Pastmasters: A fanmade compilation [no label 1DVD NTSC demonoid 2451254] fan made from official and unofficial sources and released to the net November 2010. No menu but there are 28 chapters. This is made to run like a music video with complete videos of promo and TV performances by The Beatles. Video Ex; Audio Ex SBD stereo. Aspect ratio 4:3. Black and white and color. No artwork.

The Beatles - Blue: 1967-1970 2010 compilation [no label 3DVD NTSC Demonoid 2505359, 2509680] "My goal here is to present the highest-quality, definitive (short an official apple release) video album set. It is two sets: "1962-1966, The Red DVD" and "1967-1970... and Beyond, The Blue DVD" [This is the Blue set]

I hope to upload the nicest flowing/presented video album to date. It consists of the highest quality video available to date with new stereo soundtracks for most and with mono for some of the early material.

It will only have one main playlist of one video per title in best quality (i.e. there will only be one "Hello Goodbye" in the main playlist. Most of the alternate versions will be on a bonus disc)

The purpose of this is to make an entertaining "video album." The releases that have 3 "Hello Goodbyes" in a row are nice for historical purposes, but IMO are not fun for simple viewing/listening pleasure.

Four points were obsessed over for this release:

1. Proper cropping. all of the releases I have seen have improper cropping. They either crop too much or not at all leaving all that obscene over-scan. Very minimal cropping was done, and there is no loss of picture frame size. Just enough get a clean-edged picture and to make the picture as large as possible for flat screen TV's as there is no "letter-boxing" (black bars at the top and bottom) for the 4:3 material. This will increase picture size by about 1 inch on a 32 inch monitor (over what has been released to date) - even more on larger monitors.

2. Video transition. Lead-ins and lead-outs for each video. This makes the whole video album come together as one. There are no goofy starts or finishes. Each video starts and finishes nicely with fades where necessary.

3. Perfect Audio. All of these to have fresh, crisp, and consistent audio from track to track.

4. Proper color. A commercial look and feel. Only the best quality clips were used (from the cited sources below). Professional grade color filters were employed on these clips. This was the most difficult task of them all. Some frames had to be colored individually. All those nasty hues and tints have been removed.

All color manipulation was done using a professional, Grade 1 LCD production monitor (for proper rendering) using Color Calculator software.

In short I hope to present the best looking and sounding set of promo videos to date, but that qualitative decision is up to you all to decide.

This was produced, manipulated on, and intended to be viewed on modern flat-panel monitors. I can't say how this will look on an old tube TV.

Artwork is 600dpi or greater.

When this project was started, it began by dividing all the raw clips and bits into quality categories before assembling the videos:

Grade 1: DVD quality or equivalent
Grade 2: Digital recording from digital TV or equivalent
Grade 3: First generation commercial VHS or equivalent
Grade 4: First generation high-quality home VHS recording or equivalent

Anything below this was avoided. Although there are a couple of seconds from chronology in SFF.

The Blue DVD will be three discs. The first two will be the main playlist in one double DVD case. The "bonus" disc will be for a single slimline DVD case.

There is only one video per song to be on the main playlist (unless there are significant differences ie rooftop "Get Back" is there as well as the LIBN promo, and both rooftop versions of DLMD are there as well.

The Beatles - Red: 1962-1966 2011 compilation [no label 3DVD NTSC demonoid 2549536 & 2550439] Sound synched to these videos appear to be from the 2009 Apple remasters. Fan compilation of early Beatles footage from various TV sources synched to recent mono/stereo release. DVD3 is the bonus. Video VG+ to Ex; Audio Ex SBD stereo/mono. Aspect ratio 4:3 and 16:9.

This was recorded at The Grand Ballroom in New York's Hilton Hotel. Lennon performed Slippin' & Slidin', Stand By Me and Imagine. Lennon agreed to the show to settle a publishing dispute over the two rock & roll songs. His backup band was "Etc" and they were all wearing two-faced masks a hint of the double-dealings in the music biz. The masks and the line from Slippin' and Slidin' "don't want to be your fool no more" were said to be directed at Sir Lew Grade whom Lennon and McCartney had been in dispute with over copyrights. "Getting To Dylan was filmed during the making of Hearts Of Fire in 1986 and first shown on BBC2 on 19 September 1987. Running 52 minutes, picture quality is grainy at times but never less than watchable. That's more than can be said for parts of this film. At its heart is a compelling 22 minute interview, on camera, between a cagey Dylan and BBC producer Christopher Sykes, who adopts a craven, obsequious manner in dealing with his subject that makes you want to shake him. From its title on down, the film goes out of its way to make excuses for this walking-on-eggshells attitude, driving home the message that our coquettish star is extremely equivocal about being interviewed, consenting in the end only after three weeks of havering - thus one wrong word from Sykes and Co, it suggests, and they'd be out the door quicker than the clapper-board man could shout Cut! Throughout the interview, a semi-standing and suspiciously sniffy Dylan scribbles a "portrait" of Sykes, which serves to disarm him, as presumably was the intention. When Bob mentions Trust Yourself, Sykes says "I don't know that song" - so what's he doing on this gig, then? At times Bob waxes eloquent in spite of himself, first on the subject of money and then in denying first any kind of relationship with his audience and then any interest in "fame". The music is compiled for access to individual song performances and/or the viewing of groups of songs (or song fragments) associated with a specific date/location. Included are songs from each concert venue as well as impromptu performances occurring in less-formal off-stage settings. Many of these musical performances are part of the officially-released films "Dont Look Back" and "Bob Dylan 65 Revisited" or are included in a related set of DVD bonus audio tracks or on a set of Retro Rock Show radio program discs. An unofficial DVD collection of outtake material from the filming and subsequent editing, "Dont Look Back: Outtakes", is also in circulation. Each of these sources provides invaluable if sometimes disorganized glimpses into the story of Dylan's last all-acoustic tour.

Note: On the London Bridges Vol. 1 master disc, the Newcastle Times Changin' is playable directly from the menu. As far as I know, it works on all copies made from that - including the one chuck has which was ultimately used to copy and provide source files for this torrent. However, when I read of Fred's problem, I checked playback of DVD1 - playing end to end - and did discover one anomaly. It is related to that specific track. When "Play All" is selected, all is in order except that the Newcastle Times Changin' plays in the movie *before* the Birmingham Don't Think Twice and then the movie continues chronologically with the remaining Newcastle tracks. That's something I never noticed. Playing all at once is not my normal viewing mode. Don't know if that has anything to do with Fred's situation. The Newcastle tracks play properly when individually selected. They all play in proper order when the Newcastle date/place heading is selected on the Newcastle menu page.
