The Clash - Flash Bastards: REMASTERED [no label 1CD Torrent: 120703] live at The Lyceum, London, Dec 28, 1978. "Here is an amazing Clash show from late '78. The Clash - Tribal Stomp in Monterey 1979 [no label 1CD Torrent: 93365] live at Monterey Co. Fairgrounds Monterey Ca., Sept 8, 1979. Taken from master cassette. "This is the first time that this tape has been digitized and EQed with software which allows for the cleanest, most listenable version to be offered here. I've never EQed a recording where the equipment was working properly. Only in cases where there's a serious problem would I make this kind of alteration. Even doing this, there are so many possible response curves that one can fuss endlessly. With a tape like this, one could even use different settings for different parts of it. Basically, it needed a bass boost so I took my best shot and here it is.

"A poorly attended event, the promoter Chet Helms, lost money, the Clash were pissed off about the situation and allegedly thrashed the rented RV that was their dressing room, costing even more money. Recorded by Grner1. Transferred and re-mastered by me." - musigny23. VG+ AUD stereo.

"The radio station mix has Mick's guitar in the left channel and Joe's in the right, with vocals, bass and drums centred. A highly enjoyable sound reflecting the move away from the lead guitar dominance of the concert sound mix in 1980 (especially the May/June dates) to the pared down lead guitar sound and greater prominence of the rhythm section and vocals on this tour." - Old FM Radio Recording Info. The Clash - Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg [Redline 2CD] CD1 is the Mick Jones mix of the original album that later became 1982's Combat Rock. This album gave them chart success in the US but led to Mick Jones being fired from the band. CD2 are remixes, outtakes and instrumentals. Much of the Mick Jones material has reappeared on various Clash compilations over the years. The following are officially available:

Straight To Hell - released on the "On Broadway" 3 CD box set
Cool Confusion - released on "Super Black Market Clash"
First Night Back in London - released on "Super Black Market Clash"
Ghetto Defendant - an edited version was released on "Combat Rock"
Car Jamming - an edited, slightly remixed version was released on "Combat Rock"
Should I Stay Or Should I Go - uses officially released backing track
Death Is a Star - officially released on "Combat Rock"
Innoculated City - edited version released on "Combat Rock"
Atom Tan - edited version released on "Combat Rock"
Sean Flynn - heavily edited/remixed version released on "Combat Rock"
Red Angel Dragnet - edited version released on "Combat Rock"
Rock The Casbah - edited remixed version released on"Combat Rock" and every Clash compilation.

"As an aside, the story about Mick finding cassette copies of the long-lost Vanilla Tapes when moving house are absolutely true. On the other hand, he's had possession of the Rat Patrol acetates all along. The surviving members of the Clash are a bit tired though of the reissue promotion business following the London Calling 25th Anniversary version and the whole Rat Patrol/Combat Rock issue has remained unresolved in the Clash camp enough that the outtakes have never been included on any rarities collection or box set. With Joe dead, the others may well decide to leave it at that. That would be a shame. I think Fulham and Idle are both worthy of release, and while it's arguable whether Combat Rock was an improvement on Rat Patrol at Fort Bragg, the latter has an artistic coherence the final version lacked." - TeddyB1018 at 2005-10-14 07:12:57 GMT

I have reconfigured CD1 of this bootleg to follow the original double LP sequenced by Mick Jones. Also Tks 1 and 2 of the bootleg have the wrong titles. They should be "The Fulham Connection" and "Idle In The Kangaroo Court W1" respectively. Ex SBD stereo.

The Clash - Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg 1981-82 (soniclovenoize reconstruction 2CD piratebay 11272430) "Originally conceived as a double-album by guitarist Mick Jones who had tried to harness more creative control of the band, Rat Patrol was eventually skimmed down and remixed into a more commercial single-disc, their seminal 1982 album Combat Rock.  Unlike other Rat Patrol bootlegs, this reconstruction follows Mick Jones' actual track order.

"...Just before leaving to tour Asia in early 1982, Mick Jones prepared his vision of the double album, provisionally titled Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg.  Long-winded, indulgent and sometimes even superfluous, the album contained 15 songs and ran over 65 minutes-and that was excluding at least four outtakes ("Overpowered By Funk", "Walk Evil Walk", "Midnight To Stevens" and "Long Time Jerk" did not make the cut on Jones' sequence).  The rest of the band hated it and Joe Strummer championed to have the album remixed and edited into a more commercial product.  Strummer's wishes eventually won and producer Glynn Johns was brought in to fix the album...

"That April, Strummer and Johns reviewed the material at Wessex Studios in London and remixed the songs to emphasize its guitar elements and begin whittling the songs down to their basic necessity, eliminating their unneeded near raga-lengths.  "Know Your Rights", "Red Angel Dragnet", "Ghetto Defendant", "Sean Flynn" and "Inoculated City" all lost approximately two minutes each.  The songs earmarked as singles, "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" and "Rock The Casbah" (the later actually referencing the raga-lengths of the Rat Patrol songs), were treated to new vocal tracks.  Four songs, "The Fulham Connection", "First Night Back In London", "Cool Confusion" and "Idle In Kangaroo Court W1", were dropped entirely, while "Overpowered By Funk" was curiously added back into the running order.  Despite Mick Jones and allegations that his art had been tampered with, the album was appropriately retitled to Combat Rock and CBS Records had their more commercial, single-disc album, rush-released that May."

Nominally a posthumously released John Coltrane album, this wonderful disc is actually John completely presented through Alice's early 1970s mystical vision. Only John Coltrane's and portions of his quartet members' parts are original dating from previously unreleased mid-1960s performances: the bass solos, the harp and organ parts, the percussion parts, and sweeping Stravinsky-like string arrangements were overdubbed in 1972. This is not "John Coltrane with Strings," but a re-envisioned opus entirely. Some might call it heresy: I call it brilliant. Released Jan 1, 1972. Currently out-of-print. Ex SBD stereo.

Captain Beefheart - It Comes To You In A Plain Brown Wrapper: Version 1 [no label 2CD] This is the Mirror Man sessions as originally conceived by Captain Beefheart as a double LP recorded in 1968 as the followup to Safe As Milk. It was canned by the record company. Beefheart moved to another label and released 8 of the tracks from these sessions as Strictly Personal. His old label, Buddha, responded by releasing the Mirror Man album with 4 tracks from these sessions. In 1999, an attempt was made to use all the tracks as bonus tracks on the Buddha reissues of Safe As Milk and Mirror Man. This bootleg contains Beefheart's original intention as the double LP "It Comes To You In A Plain Brown Wrapper". Ex SBD stereo.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - It Comes To You in a Plain Brown Wrapper 1968 (soniclovenoize reconstruction 2CD piratebay 11272578) This is a reconstruction of the unreleased 1968 double-album It Comes to You in a Plain Brown Wrapper by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band.  Originally scrapped with half of the material re-recorded and infamously "psychedelicized" for the album Strictly Personal and the other half released as 1972's Mirror Man, this reconstruction attempts to cull all the originally intended material for the double album that was supposed to be their sophomore release, more successfully bridging the gap between 1967's Safe As Milk and 1969's Trout Mask Replica.

This parcel was never delivered however, as the recording sessions came to a halt.  No reason was ever given, but it has been suggested that their label Buddha Records had pulled the plug out of disinterest.  A consolation was offered by the producer of the Plain Brown Wrapper sessions, Bob Krasnow, who convinced the band to rerecord some of the material and release it on his label Blue Thumb. Recorded in April and May of 1968, Don & his crew recut the more "commercial" tracks from the Fall 1967 sessions at a much more abbreviated length ("Mirror Man" was cut from the original 15 minutes down to 5!).  In a move that angered Beefheart fans for ages, Krasnow took the liberty himself (allegedly) to overdub numerous faux-psychedelic effects onto the newly-recorded album, even completely burying the mixes under unlistenable phasing.  The released album-Strictly Personal-was a commercial disaster and The Captain disowned the album, claiming the effects were added without his permission.  Some speculate that was untrue and Don had given his approval only to later turn on the album after its failure.  Either way, this folly of questionable truth is just simply a part of the Captain Beefheart mythos, as was everything else.

Chicago Transit Authority - Fillmore West, May 1969 [no label 1CD] live at Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, May 30, 1969. The earliest known recording just after the release of Chicago Transit Authority? Some cuts in the tracks. "The May '69 Chicago show at Fillmore West you sent is the same CD as what most people refer to as the 2nd CD from the August 15-17, 1969 Fillmore West show. Why most people feel it is August 15-17, '69 is because Robert Lamm says during the show that it is their 3rd time at the Fillmore and it was a long time between the 2nd and 3rd shows at Fillmore West. The back of the Carnegie Hall booklet lists Chicago's concert dates from '67 to '71. It lists their first shows at Fillmore West as Sept 12-14, 1968 and Nov 21-24, 1968. It lists the third show as, you guessed it, August 15-17, 1969." - trader Buff. Ex SBD stereo.

Chicago Transit Authority - Fillmore West 1969: THE FINAL VERSION? [GuySmiley Production 2CD Torrent #90076] live at Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA., August (15-17), 1969. "After numerous permutations making the internet rounds, here is what we hope will be the ultimate - and most complete - version of this earliest known soundboard recording of Chicago (Transit Authority. Recorded live at Bill Graham‚s fabled Fillmore West in August of 1969, the reels were transferred to DAT in the early 1990s before Graham's untimely death. The original DAT had the 2 short sets completely mixed up as the reels were loaded incorrectly.

(In fact, the last track on the 90 minute DAT is Someday which explains the sharp cut at the end of that song compared to the "old-school" sound of a reel as it reaches the end of its tether.) When the DAT was first transferred to CDR, presumably in the early 2000s, it tracked poorly and the resulting copy which was leaked to the internet suffered from numerous obnoxious digital noise bursts (in addition to the original dropouts that occurred due to reel flips and other human errors)." A couple of songs are cut at the end, Someday and Liberation. Except for a slight fade at the end of Someday, these 2 tracks were left alone. Some dropouts on original reel specifically Beginnings, Questions 67 & 68 and The Road have been worked on. Ex SBD stereo. This version is taken from the master DAT tape that was a direct copy from the master reel.

Chicago - Park West 1982: UPGRADE [no label 1CD Torrent: 112106] live at Park West, Chicago, IL, August 5 or 6 1982. Lineage: Westwood One 2LP's (strobe speed verified). "As far as I know this syndicated concert was aired on radio at least twice by Westwood One. First, as a shorter 60 minute (w/ commercials) version between Dec. 3rd and 5th 1982. Then, as a 90 minute version the week of 10/17/83 in completely different order. The latter broadcast transcription discs are the source of this torrent, approx 76 minutes and some change, total minus commercials. This longer version contains all the same songs, plus more, that were in the original truncated broadcast. Nice sounding show with a few caveats. As is often the case with Westwood One LP's from this era, the pressings were cut at an *extremely* low level and geared for FM broadcast, as much as 27 minutes of material on one LP side, resulting in a show that's a wee tad shut-in compared to the absolute very best recordings." This version is 4 minutes longer than the previous. There is also one track difference - This has Chains as Tk 5. The other has it titled as Free Form Intro. Broadcast live over the radio by New Rock 97.3 WAZQ FM in Cincinnati, hosted by Jimmy The Weasel. Pioneer AV Receiver>Canon ZR40 miniDV>Firewire>Sony Vegas>Flac Frontend. Alas this recording is not as pristine as its lineage suggests. Seems the station's transmission may not have been powerful so there are issues with sound quality eg slightly muffled here and there and distortion. But the revelation is that Coldplay's shows are heavily supported by pre-recorded sounds although all individual instruments are live as are the vocals but "backing parts" were pre-recorded. The group must play within a set pattern. Hence the conclusion is that if you've seen one Coldplay show, you've seen them all. In this case, if you've heard one, you've heard them all.
