live at Generation Club, New York, Apr 15, 1968 with BB King and Paul

2. Fixed different levels pre- and post- flips
3. Fixed the tape flip / Glitches (details below in set list)
4. Gentle 2db Nero noise reduction (just to take the edge off the noise,
not affect the music)

fits on a CD-R90)

(sounds like a real show)

"Given that these recordings have been assembled from a variety of different
sources, the sound quality (with the exception of the last 3 tracks on
Disc 3, which, as the soundboard tape mysteriously stopped running, have
been taken from a less-than perfect audience recording) is excellent,
and as usual, Jimi's virtuoso delivery is as varied and unpredictable
as ever, as are the technical problems which were invariably the sub-text
of the majority of Hendrix concerts."
These shows have
been released several times as bootlegs. Ex SBD stereo with exceptions
noted above.

Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy Sun And The Rainbows Sessions [no label 1CD] sessions
at Hit Factory, New York, Aug 20-26 1969. Some sources place these recordings
at Jimi house in Shokan, New York. Mainly it's Jimi and Mitch Mitchell
exploring "Villanova Junction"? Recorded on 4-track. The flute on the
tape is actually unrelated to this session. Whoever recorded this forgot
to erase the tape completely hence the presence of a flutist in a Hendrix
session! Ex- SBD stereo but there's plenty of hiss.
Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy Sun & Rainbows: Shokan - UPGRADE [no label 3CD
Torrent: 75215] Shokan was the house Jimi Hendrix stayed in New York City.
These sessions recorded there was in August 1969. This is an upgraded
version of the 3 disc Jimi Hendrix "Shokan" set. What has been UPGRADED
- the earlier torrent omitted the alt mixes included in the original set,
those are present here.
- 3 tracks have been upgraded, they now come from a lower gen source
- this upgraded version is "authorized" (for lack of a better word), ie
the upgrade was done by the original compiler of the set, and the ape-files
are the ones originally circulated, no conversions from one file format
to another have been done.
The following tracks have been upgraded:
Disc 1
Track 10 Sundance
Disc 3
Track 5 Instrumental Jam (JA3)
Track 6 Jams / Villanova Junction (JA4-5)
Lineage is not known but the tapes are of low generation, perhaps circa
2nd or 3rd gen. None of this material has ever been released officially.

- At The Beeb [no label 1CD demonoid 1762929] Live at the BBC studios, London,
Feb to December 1967. Recorded for Saturday Club, Top Gear and Rhythm &
Blues. "These are the highlights from Hendrix's 1967 BBC sessions in the
best possible sound quality. This set was compiled from the true mono BBC
masters and not the poor fake stereo tape dubs used for "Radio One"
and "BBC Sessions". The songs have been edited together to flow
straight through like a radio broadcast or session tape. I wanted to keep the
set down to a concise single disc, so the extra session material included on
"BBC Sessions" has been excluded, however, this disc is more complete
than "Radio One". This set was designed for audiophiles, but even the
casual listener will notice an improvement over the official releases. There
was no compression or noise reduction added in the remastering process."

bonus tracks. This set was compiled from pre-FM sources and NO OFFICIAL

Jimi Hendrix - The Blue Thumb Acetate 1970 [no label 1CD crosstown 21690] this is the famous acetate of Hendrix and Love with Arthur Lee recording one song and jamming on Easy Rider and Loon. Ex SBD stereo. This was auctioned and purchased by the staff of Crosstown Traffic to be shared freely. TT: about 15m.
Jimi Hendrix - Studio '70 (Is This Legal? & Willjamz Productions ITL?-WJ
001-011 / Distributed Mar 1, 2003 / 11-CDR) Outtakes from 1970; 127 tracks
spread across 11 CDs, or to quote the release notes: "The idea [has been]
to compile a complete as possible diary of Jimi's 1970 studio sessions."
The intention has been to make this set without the use of officially
released material, although it has been necessary to cross into the gray
area a few times on some tracks. However: The tracks that have been used
are not readily available anymore, and the inclusion of them is based
on their vital importance in making this set as complete as possible.
Missing on this set
are Jimi's 1970 sessions with Stephen Stills and Love plus the complete
Berkeley Soundchecks. However: The purpose of this set is just to show
Jimi in the studio working toward his next album. Guest appearances with
other artist's sessions just doesn't fit into this picture. Also the Berkeley
Soundchecks are well documented with the two shows of that night and don't
need any further documentation.

Jimi Hendrix - Talent & Feeling Vol 1&2 [EXR 2CD bootcity 20326,
3878] CD1 "Talent & Feeling Vol.1" is a nice collection of studio
outtakes and demos. Some "Band Of Gypsys" material, "Cry Of Love songs"
plus jams. A couple would end up in butchered form on Crash Landing. One
of the highlights is blues jam "The Things I Used To Do", featuring Johnny
Winter on slide guitar, Steven Stills on bass, and Dallas Taylor on drums.
Another is "Peace In Mississippi". Some fierce and angry guitar playing
there. "You And Me Blues" has appeared under the "Lord I Sing The Blues"
title before, but here it is in more complete form. Jam With Piano And
Trumpet is another circa 1970. "Little Drummer Boy" has appeared on many
CDs too. It's the BOG rehearsal version with choir added after 1970."
CD 2 is the raw studio sessions that later became the Crash Landing album.
Mostly Ex SBD stereo.
Jimi Hendrix - Freak Out Blues [no label 1CD bootcity Torrent 20366] "Freak
Out Blues features jams mostly with the Band Of Gypsys lineup, though
there are a couple of Electric Ladyland demos, and solo stuff as well.
Starting with an small sound byte by Jimi, explaining what his new album
(Axis:Bold As Love) is all about, it then goes into a solo version of
Midnight Lightning that is similiar to the one on South Saturn Delta.
Voodoo Chile, an outtake from Electric Ladyland, is the version found
on the Blues CD; Rainy Day Try Out is an early version of another Electric
Ladyland tune; Red House, another track from the Blues and the Variations
On A Theme CDs, is here in its complete form; Bleeding Heart is Jimi solo,
no vocals, on what sounds like some of the backing guitar that would end
up on the War Heroes track of the same name. After that, the CD goes into
a number of jams featuring the Band Of Gypsys lineup, including the full
(minus Jimi explaining to Buddy how he wants the song to start) Blue Suede
Shoes jam (originally found on Loose Ends, including the spoken comments
by Jimi), and here called Police Blues." Ex SBD stereo.
Jimi Hendrix - Crash Landing: Unreleased Version (Watchtower 1CD zomb
6423) "In 1974 Alan Douglas was brought in by Warner Bros to try to salvage
some sort of product from the hundreds of remaining hours of studio material.
Douglas' controversial approach to the task, wiping the original backing
tracks and reformatting the songs using session musicians with Jimi's
original guitar and vocals continues to provoke outcry from the diehard
fans and critics alike. It has to be admitted though, the album Crash
Landing was a commercial success but the final result was not what the
fans want. Now you can hear the original tracks and mix from the material
that was used for the project Crash Landing." From Watchtower's liner
notes. Ex SBD stereo.

notes: The BBC Playhouse Theatre, London 06.10.67 interview was actually
conducted by Tommy Vance, but the interviewer on this recording is Brian
Matthews. The reason for this oddity is as follows: The original transcription
discs/tapes with Tommy Vance and John Peel's contributions to the "Top
Gear" shows have apparently been lost, all the chat on these shows are
later overdubs by Brian Matthews for his Swedish (English language) "Top
Of The Pops" RADIO show - NOT the famous British TV show. Seeing the source
for the recording featured here is the Swedish show, the featured voice
is of course Brian Matthews' later overdub instead of Tommy Vance's original.

# Revision #1 (May
30, 2005): Replacement CD-ROM with revised text-file, original artwork
and new art for the DVD and CD-ROM discs.
# Revision #3 (oct.2005): Replacement CD-ROM with additional tracks, replacement
tracks, revised text-file and additional artwork.
(The most notable changes in Revision #3 is the upgrade of the Lund 10.09.67
1st Show and the inclusion of the previously uncirculated Sample tape
from Club Filips, Stockholm 07.09.67 - the so-called Hansson & Karlsson
Jam. There are 2 ways to integrate the new material in the set: Option
1 is to keep the original set as is, and put the new material on 2 additional
audio discs (thereby making the complete set consist of 24 audio CDs;
Total time for Discs 23 & 24: 113:49). Option 2 is to incorporate
the new material into the existing set by altering and re-burning individual
discs.)
Disc 23 (New): Upgrade
& Replacement Studio tracks: "May This Be Love" (2) / "She's So Fine"
(1) / "If Six Was Nine" ( ) / "EXP" ( ) / "The Stars That Play With Laughing
Sam's Dice" (1, 4) / Club Filips, Stockholm 07.09.67 [Hansson & Karlsson
Jam] (excerpts only): Jams I - XII - 19 tracks; 46:35m
notes:- It has not been 100% verified that the Hansson & Karlsson
jam portion included in this set is the "real deal", and that these recordings
do in fact feature Jimi Hendrix. The complete recording of the Hansson
& Karlsson jam from Club Filips, Stockholm 07.09.67 allegedly runs
for 4 hr 15 min but remain unreleased / uncirculated. The recordings featured
in this set are just 12 brief samples, and clock in at a total of a little
over 16 min's. There also exists a 22:10 sample tape from this jam, but
that is in fact the same 16 min tape that's included here, merely differently
indexed (just 11 tracks) and with the addition of an extra 6:02 track
pieced together from the "original" samples as track 12.
- Personnel on the Hansson & Karlsson Jam is believed to be: Bo
Hansson: Organ / Janne Karlsson: drums / Georges Clemons: drums / Jimi
Hendrix: bass / and George Wadenius (from Blood, Sweat & Tears).
- Quote from Jimpress 68, p.43 regarding this sample tape: "The guitar
playing can best be described as free form messing about or much of this
though it sounds like Hendrix in places, though a bit too 'modern' and
'processed'. The recording doesn't help with heavy hall ambience. The
instrumentation consists of guitar, keyboards and drums/percussion. This
is especially suspect as Jimi is alleged to play bass during this jam
!"
- The so-called Hansson & Karlsson Jam is lifted from ATM 152-157
"Kick Out The Jams".
- "May This Be Love" (2) is lifted from ATM 109-112 "Maximum Experience".
The Remaining studio tracks are lifted from ATM 158-160 "Axis: Bold as
Love - The Sessions".
Disc 24 (New): Stora
Salen, Akademiska Foreningen, Lund 10.09.67 [1st Show]: Intro / "Sgt.Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band" (17) / "Foxy Lady" (112) / "Catfish Blues" (15)
/ "Fire" (97) / The Wind Cries Mary" (22) / "Have Mercy" (4) (cut) / "Manic
Depression" (15) / "Purple Haze" (123) / Upgrade & Replacement Studio
tracks: "Little Miss Lover" (x, 3) / "You Got Me Floating" (2) / "One
Rainy Wish" (3) / "Bold As Love" ( ) / "Little Wing" (2) / "Ain't No Tellin'"
(2) / "Up From The Skies" (2) / "Castles Made Of Sand" (2) / "Wait Until
Tomorrow" ( ) - 19 tracks; 67:13m
notes: The Lund 10.09.67 recording is lifted from JA 063 "The Swedish
Shows Vol.3 - Supplement".
The Studio tracks are lifted from ATM 158-160 "Axis: Bold as Love - The
Sessions".
Option 2: Altering & re-burning individual discs (The discs that will
have to be altered in order to include the new material are also listed
below):
Disc 8: Studio recordings
& Outtakes 29.03.67-03.04.67 / "Top of The Pops", BBC Lime Grove Studios,
London 30.03.67 / Jimi's Apartment, London 10.04.67 (Interview by Leif
Andersson for Swedish Radio "Pop 67 med Amerikalisten") / "Late Night
Line Up", London 17.04.67 - 24 tracks; 78:00 (1 track replaced)
Disc 9: "Top of The
Pops", BBC Lime Grove Studios, London 04.05.67 / Studio recordings &
Outtakes 04.05.67-09.05.67 / "Top of The Pops", BBC Lime Grove Studios,
London 10.05.67 / "Music Hall de Paris", Théatre d'Issy les Moulineaux,
Paris 11.05.67 - 23 tracks; 75:01 (2 tracks replaced, 2 tracks added *)
[* The current audio disc only allows 1 track to be added, so timing
is for 1 additional track only. To include both new tracks, the last track
on Disc 9 will have to be moved to the beginning of disc 10, hence making
it necesarry to re-burn Disc 10 and subsequently Disc 11 as well.]
Disc 12: US Army

THE BOB TERRY TAPES liberated 2011]
The Jimi Hendrix exhibition at the new Marquee Club in Leicester Square is the former collection of Bob Terry, who started collecting in 1967 after the Are You Experienced album blew his 14-year old mind. Terry spent the next 30 years buying anything related to Hendrix, but due to health reasons, he sold the collection to a group of American investors around 18 months ago. These investors are now offering the collection for sale through auction house Cooper Owen.
"I knew of Bob Terry because I have probably sold more Hendrix than anyone on the planet ? of the good pieces and big discoveries," says Ted Owen, "so I was aware that he was out there. But I wasn't aware that he was sitting on a collection like this!" - November 2004

notes:
- It has not been
100% verified that the Hansson & Karlsson jam portion included in
this set is the "real deal", and that these recordings do in fact feature
Jimi Hendrix. The complete recording of the Hansson & Karlsson jam
from Club Filips, Stockholm 07.09.67 allegedly runs for 4 hr 15 min but
remain unreleased / uncirculated. The recordings featured in this set
are just 12 brief samples, and clock in at a total of a little over 16
min's. There also exists a 22:10 sample tape from this jam, but that is
in fact the same 16 min tape that's included here, merely differently
indexed (just 11 tracks) and with the addition of an extra 6:02 track
pieced together from the "original" samples as track 12. Personnel on
the Hansson & Karlsson Jam is believed to be: Bo Hansson: Organ /
Janne Karlsson: drums / Georges Clemons: drums / Jimi Hendrix: bass /
and George Wadenius (from Blood, Sweat & Tears).
- Uncertainty has
for a long time surrounded both the exact date for the Scene Club recordings
and the personnel featured on them. The date has now been confirmed as
March 18, 1968, and personnel is believed to be Jimi Hendrix (guitar /
vocals), Jim Morrison (vocals) and Lester Chambers (harp) plus two unknown
guitarists, unknown bass and unknown drums. Some of these may or may not
have been members of The McCoys or The Young Rascals, but neither Johnny
Winter nor Rick Derringer were among them.

all circulating live jam recordings of Jimi Hendrix 1966-70 with the exception
of the jam at Newport '69 Pop Festival, San Fernando State College, Devonshire

Ray Sharpe with The King Curtis Orchestra, The Atlantic Sounds, The Icemen,

Commanders, Owen Grey, Aretha Franklin / This set also includes related
material with no Hendrix involvement) Compiled from Original 45 rpm Singles
- Digitally Restored Upgrade of ATM 185-186 "The Jimmy James Singles Collection";
Some tracks have been added, some upgraded, and the order rearranged a
little to reflect revised thoughts on recording dates
Some notes on the
changes: 1) The Rosa Lee Brooks sides are now taken from the original
45 (two different copies of it in fact). The increase in quality is substantial;
this is probably the best-quality version around now. Different recollections
by Rosa, Arthur, etc on the recording year have conflicted; but evidence
indicates that early 1965 is likely. Thus those sides have been moved
forward in the sequence. 2) The Frank Howard & The Commanders sides
are now included. The principals involved claim that Jimi is on guitar
on "I'm So Glad". This A-side is available on CD, in equivalent quality,
although the fade is a little different there. 3) Both the Owen Gray remake
of "Help Me" and Aretha's track "Save Me" are now included, along with
their flip-sides. Both use the Ray Sharpe backing track, although Aretha's
version has Jimmy's rhythm guitar removed. It's still included in the
spirit of the other "context" singles on this set that don't actually
include Hendrix. 4) The Jayne Mansfield sides have been moved to the end
of Disc 1, since they most naturally go with the Curtis Knight recordings.
5) Although some of these tracks are available on CD, all sides are taken
from the original 45s, just as on V 1.0 of this collection.

Experience performed three nights at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu may-june
1969, and a high degree of uncertainty surrounds the exact date for this
particular recording; The correct date might as well be 31.05.69 or 01.06.69
as the 30.05.69 date given here. Poor AUD mono. Very muddy. Approx 23mins.
Very short.

Jimi Hendrix - Singer
Bowl 1968 (ATM 233 / 31.01.2006 / 2CDR) live at New York Rock Festival,
Singer Bowl, Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, New York City, NY Aug 23,
1968 [Complete Show]; 57:03) Aud; Low Gen [Allegedly Master] with patches
in "Red House" (24) - Remastered & Speed corrected. "An excellent
show, but the recording it only so-so; listenable but occasionally harsh.
Fortunately the live mix is pretty good with all instruments more-or-less
audible most of the time." This set circulates with the artwork originally
made for a slightly differently indexed version of the show, so the tracklist
on the cover doesn't match the tracklist of this CD 100%. CD2 Bonus Disc:
The Raw Source with no edits or speed corrections. Poor to GD AUD mono.
Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy
Sun & Rainbows: Woodstock - Nothing But Primary Rhythm Things ...
(ATM 239-240 / 21.04.2007 / 2CDR) live at Woodstock Music & Arts Fair
(Woodstock Festival), Yasgur's Farm, Bethel, NY Aug 18, 1969 [Complete
Show]. "A complete as possible version of the Woodstock performance; The
basic source for this composite is the Eddie Kramer source, which is only
missing "Message To Love" and a few short cuts in music or tuning. These
were patched in from the Douglas source or from official releases. Chip's
closing comments were also added. Everything was pitch-adjusted to the
official tracks. Pitch was fairly stable except during "Hey Joe" where
it varied a bit on the Kramer source. The Kramer source was EQ'd to get
it closer to the official tracks, and the patch bits were EQ'd to match
the rest." The official release misses the tracks sung by Larry Lee. Ex

Jimi Hendrix - Los Angeles Forum 1970: 4th
Source (ATM 241 / 29.02.2008 / 2CDR) CD1 live in Los
Angeles, CA, Apr 25, 1970. From Aud Master cassette. Digitally restored*?[* Phase
offset corrected, variable pitch correction performed, some varying volume
adjustments to the left channel performed, and finally a handful of clicks (due
to tape damage) and some momentary single-channel dropouts (also from tape
aging/damage) fixed. There are 2 cuts in "Machine Gun" (14), where
respectively 2:00 and 1:03 of music is missing. Notes: - This 4th source only
consists of the first half of the concert, but this is all that remains of the
recording. TT 51:61m
CD2 Bonus Disc: The 4th Source Modified
version. Same as the unaltered version, but with the following modifications:
There were a handful of bad places on the original tape. These problems have
been sorted out here, and the problem areas have been patched with excerpts
from the 2nd Source (aka. Far source). There's one
patch each in "Foxy Lady" (76), "Lover Man" (25) (actually
after the song during the applause), and "Hear My Train A-Comin'" (38). "Machine Gun" (14) had 3
problem areas, of which one has been patched. The other 2 were cuts where
respectively 2:00 and 1:03 of music was missing. The track is included here in
2 versions. One (7:13) has these cuts smoothed out, but not patched, while the
other (composite version) has the cuts patched, and thereby restored to its
original length (10:11)TT: 61:26m

Jimi Hendrix - Gypsy Sun & Rainbows: New York City (ATM 246-248 / 02.11.2009 / 3CDR Crosstown 2264)?Collection of available studio recordings from the Gypsy Sun & Rainbows august-september 1969. All material taken from the best available sources; All tracks checked and corrected for technical issues including pitch, phase offset, and digital errors.? Together with the Shokan tapes (available on ATM 221-223 Gypsy Sun & Rainbows: Shokan - Jammin' Back At The House) and the complete Woodstock live concert (available on ATM 239-240 "Gypsy Sun & Rainbows: Woodstock - Nothing But Primary Rhythm Things"), these complete the coverage of the brief existence of the Gypsy Sun & Rainbows. The recordings all likely took place at the Hit Factory except for the last track (from the Record Plant). Shortly afterwards Jerry and Larry left the group, and the ensemble that played at Woodstock was only a memory. VG+ to Ex SBD stereo/mono. |
