Pink Floyd - The Syd Barrett Tapes [no label 1CD demonoid 1539861] fan compilation of demos, alternate mixes and outtakes and BBC b'casts remastered by needledrop 2008. "This set was compiled from the best available sources. Fan-made mutli-disc sets such as "Have You Got It Yet" were not used. These sets tend to be over-processed for mass consumption. This set is mastered from an audiophile standpoint. Mono material appears in true mono and not re-processed stereo. There was no additional echo or ambience added. Noise reduction was not used on any material. Hiss was often reduced with judicious equalization. I have tried to present the best sonic experience possible without compromising the integrity of the source material at hand. If you need just one con
cise Syd Barrett bootleg in your collection, then this would be the one." - needledrop. Ex stereo/mono.

Pink Floyd - BBC Archives 1967-1979: Revision A [Harvested 1CD Torrent: 147776] "Back when this title was orginally released, Marc-Olivier did an exhaustive comparison between it and the ROIO known as "At Dawn v4.00". He found neither entity to be superior to the other. Each one had its strong points in different areas and he suggested an amalgamation of the two. A little later, we also learned that the speed used for Scream Thy Last Scream and Vegetable Man were incorrect. Another flaw existed with the 1967 sessions. These were originally mono broadcasts. But due to "old age" of the tapes, the original BBC6769 Harvested release had some channel balance problems. All this, and more, has been fixed on the 'rev A' release." VG+ to Ex SBD mono/stereo?

"This recording was taken directly from the source reels, and is not one of the many versions that are copies of the Radio Hilversum broadcast. Not even track breaks have been added. There are no cuts of any kind to this performance." - fatoldpig. This is an uncirculated MoLM release. "More source info from MoLM: First or second generation CDs from the reel to reel. Sourced from a hugely reliable trader in Wisconsin. He ripped his using EAC and burned it to audio for me onto Kodak Gold CDRs back in 1998. He had several contacts within the European radio community. As I recall my source got this by burying his Euro contact with tons of live Neil Young before the guy gave up a copy. (The trader had all the Floyd he could ever want, apparently.)" Ex SBD stereo. Quality is very close to Free Range Pigs version, if not better.

Pink Floyd - Intersteller Overdrive: Alternate Masters 66-68 [ESRF 1CD] Released in 2002. Here are two reviews:

"As an exploration of Pink Floyd's early history, this 17-song bootleg CD has virtually no peer -- beginning with "Lucy Leave," a crunchy two-chord Syd Barrett-authored rocker dating from the group's first session in October 1966, it just grabs listeners and never lets them go. The group's version of "I'm a King Bee" shows more inventive guitar work than, say, the Rolling Stones' rendition of two and a half year earlier. And from those two jewels out of the group's pre-history, the disc roars into the alternate takes from their more familiar earlier psychedelic period -- the January 1967 long version of "Interstellar Overdrive," the A- and B-sides of the early singles (including a remastering of "Candy and a Currant Bun" that sounds like the guitars are in the room with you); alternate (and delightfully strange) mono mixes of "Flamingo" (with delightfully upfront phasing of the guitars, drums, and voices), "Scarecrow," and "Interstellar Overdrive"; plus stereo mixes of "Apples and Oranges" and "Paintbox"; and odd Syd Barrett outtakes from the period of his exit out of the band and his early solo work. The sound is mostly excellent and the art (derived in part from a legitimate 1960s French release) is superior to that of any current legitimate Pink Floyd CD." - Bruce Eder, Jun 18, 2004

"All studio tracks. Fantastic sound, though more than probably sourced from vinyl (d'oh). Nice LP-like cover (probably just a scan of the original LP), but some details are incomplete/untrue. Tracks 1&2 are in fact recorded in demo sessions 1965 and not 66 as mentioned. The name Pink Floyd was not yet being used and guitarist Bob Klose was part of the band at the time. Track 3 is simply the 16min 'Tonight Let's All Make Love In London' version. 'Flamingo', tk 7, is of course 'Flaming.' Track 11 a.k.a. Sunshine. Though some tracks are the same than on the Harvested ROIO "Dawn of the Piper", this one is a must-have for completist and early-years collectors, especially for the outtakes included and the rare high quality sound. Except the last track which sounds as it's been recorded through a tin can with a recorder having speed problems. (the only drawback though)" -- comments taken from OrangeMaze

Pink Floyd - UMMA & GUMMA Ummagumma Revisited [Furry Animal 2004 3CD yeeshkul 2605] "Revisiting UMMAGUMMA as if it was a band-album, including left-overs and alternate versions, plus some home-made edits. Giving it a brandnew concept. (So this could have been PF's first concept album!)… "The Embryo" and "Biding my Time" were recorded for Ummagumma but left out in spite of the concept of making it a 'four-men-solo album'." - Furry Animal. CD 1 is taken from studio sessions and attempts to recreate Ummagumma. CD2 and 3 are live to recreate how Ummagumma would have sounded as a live concert. VG+ to Ex SBD/AUD? Stereo.

Pink Floyd - BBC Radio One Master Reels July 16, 1970 [no label 1CD Yeeshkul 4710] live at Paris Cinema, London, July 16 1970. Atom Heart Mother performed with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Orchestra and the John Aldiss Choir directed by John Aldiss. B'cast on John Peel's Sunday Concert. "The present torrent "BBC Radio One Master Reels" has no frequencies missing, but there are signs of processing (EQing), as buffalofloyd suggested in his first post. The loud parts have a good amount of high frequencies, and when it comes to quieter parts, the spectrum shows an attenuation of high frequencies (as if a kind of "dynamic hiss reduction" tool was used). But this is not annoying at all for the listening experience. What is annoying, though, is some kind of very slight treble noise that can be heard during the quiet parts (e.g. making John Peel's annoucements sound "metallic")." - MOB. Ex SBD mono.

Pink Floyd - BBC Mono Master July 16, 1970 [no label 1CD yeeshkul 4708] live at Paris Cinema, London, July 16 1970. Atom Heart Mother performed with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Orchestra and the John Aldiss Choir directed by John Aldiss. B'cast on John Peel's Sunday Concert. Source is BBC Sound Archive mono master. "The current torrent is the best version of the mono masters I know. It's better than the "BBC Radio One Master Reels" and HRV "Mooed Music Rev A". The spectral analysis shows full range of frequencies, and there's no sign at all of EQing or dynamic dehissing (unlike the "BBC Radio One Master Reels", the general amount of high frequencies is constant during the full recording). And purely sonically speaking, the slight treble noise that was present on "BBC Radio One Master Reels" is not here at all. And John Peel's annoucements don't have that metallic sound either. IMHO this is not the result of some cleaning process (I cannot hear any artefact), more probably from a different transfer from BBC masters, with other (better) devices. Conclusion: my preference goes for "BBC Mono Master" (the 10 track RoIO torrented here: http://www.yeeshkul.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4708 ), because of sound fidelity and absence of treble noise. - MOB. Ex SBD mono.

Note: MOB also said "However, I detected microgaps around track transitions, and curiously the speed is too fast (if you want the correct speed, matching the CWTAE pitch from official Ummagumma live version, and also matching the pitch on the official BBC transcriptions CDs and LPs, you need to do a 102.5% stretch)."

Pink Floyd - BBC Mono Master July 16, 1970: REV A [no label 1CD yeeshkul 60204] live at Paris Cinema, London, July 16 1970. Atom Heart Mother performed with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Orchestra and the John Aldiss Choir directed by John Aldiss. B'cast on John Peel's Sunday Concert. Source is BBC Sound Archive mono master. Ex SBD mono. Microgaps removed, speed-corrected April 26, 2008.

Pink Floyd - Electric Factory Rev A [Harvested 021 2CD Torrent: 117782] live in Philadelphia, PA, September 16, 1970. "The last three minutes of Set the Controls appears to be patched from another (inferior) source. In addition to my normal click and pop elimination, I also removed a chirping sound from those last 3 minutes. This noise appears to have been an artefact from some dehissing done long ago on this patch." - Ron Toon. VG+ to Ex- AUD stereo.

Pink Floyd - Electric Factory [Harvested 021 2CD] live at Electric Factory, Philadelphia, Sept 26 1970. Ex AUD.

Pink Floyd - Pink Floyd - BBC Radio One Master Reels Sept 30, 1971 [no label 1CD Yeeshkul 4711] live at Paris Cinema, London, Sept 30 1971. B'cast on BBC's Sounds of the Seventies. This is directly from the BBC master edited for airplay, but not remastered. "Sonically speaking, it's very difficult to hear any difference between this "BBC Radio One Master Reels" and HRV's "Meddled Rev A", even on a good equipment with headphones. But beeerlover is true when he says that the spectrum analysis shows some "missing" frequencies in the HRV release. Maybe a MiniDisc somewhere in the lineage?" - MOB. Ex SBD mono. This version was probably mixed to mono by BBC.

Note: MOB also said "HRV CDR 007 "BBC Archives 1970-1971" contains the "stereo" versions of the BBC shows. However, the 1970 BBC concert was recorded in mono by the BBC, and the "stereo" versions floating around are actually fake stereo versions (in the '90s, the various transcription CDs for radios contained artificial stereo versions of Embryo, GITC, CWTAE, If and the second part of AHM). The content of HRV CDR 007 disc 1 is directly taken from the transcription CDs (thus, fake stereo), completed by John Peel's comments, Fat Old Sun and the first half of AHM from the true mono versions."

Pink Floyd - Blindness [Sigma 5 2CD tapecity 137016] live at Falkoner Centret, Copenhagen, Denmark, Nov 12, 1970. "Blindness follows the paradigm of the Ayanami by using the excellent sounding tape and introducing the lesser quality tape in a seamless edit two minutes into "A Saucerful Of Secrets." The excellent quality recording sounds beautiful. It isn't too shrill and captures amazing detail of the events on stage including the subtle sounds of chirping birds during "Green Is The Colour." There are some minor volume dropouts throughout the set, and there are some speed problems during the first couple minutes "Atom Heart Mother" due to the tape running close to the end of the side. After a tape flip 6:35 into the song that problem clears up." Ex- AUD stereo.

Pink Floyd - Ernst-Merck Halle 1970 [no label 2CD Torrent: 68292] live at Ernst-Merck Halle (T-136), Hamburg Germany, Nov 14, 1970. "This is a great, unique show. It's my favorite version of Green is the Colour. Sound quality is EX, although the vocals are sometimes distant." Ex- AUD stereo.

"This recording is purported to come from an FM Reel Master. The sound quality is quite excellent, and this may very well be an appropriate lineage. The comparison to "Smoking Blues" reveals that this recording is brighter and cleaner, to my ears. You may find that its not an upgrade. caveat listener." danlynch Aug 17, 2004. Ex- FM? stereo. Pink Floyd - The "Pictures Of Pink Floyd" Restoration Project [DoinkerTape 2CD Torrent: 87014] This is a rare performance of The Librest Spacement Monitor by Pink Floyd during their 1971 tour of Europe. "Part of this is definitely an audience recording and is from Offenbach 1971-02-26." Sourced from private collector Herr Peter D from his original double LP boot. Records were played on a Technics Sl-1200MK2 turntable, using a Layla 3G console directly into a Dell computer. Some flaws remain especially the speed changes during Atom Heart Mother. Included is an imperfect attempt at speed correction and the original version as taken from the vinyl. It came from an FM broadcast over the BBC in England. The stereo dimension adds so much to the recording, you can actually hear very distinctly what each band member is doing." - thepinkfloyd.co.uk. The content of HRV CDR 007 disc 1 is directly taken from the transcription CDs (thus, fake stereo), completed by John Peel's comments, Fat Old Sun and the first half of AHM from the true mono versions."

Pink Floyd - Something from Nothing [Digital Reproductions 2CD Torrent: 59209] live at Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC, Nov 16, 1971. "An excellent live audience recording, very clean and very low gen. Other versions of this show had considerable problems with edits between songs, strange volume levels and complete drop outs. All those problems have now been corrected and the results net a fantastic early Floyd show. One of These Days is a really spacey version, considerably different and longer than most other versions. Echoes is presented by its working title, a little bit of humor from the boys. Dave seems to be in great spirits and loses control during the end of Cymbaline. Another must have recording if you are an early Floyd fan." - The Digital Dan. Ex- AUD stereo.

"The first part is the 'abused' recording of the first Dark Side performance, the famous première in Brighton (January 20) stopped for technical problems (see The Dark Side Rehearsals, Eclipsed By The Moon, Dark Side Premier ...), but the second set is not the Portsmouth January 21 recording (as often listed and as written on the cover too) it's really an alternate better version of the Winter Gardens January 22 show!" - Fat Old Sun. Pink Floyd - Echoes Of The Past [ICPI-1998 1CD Torrent: 62656] live at Sporthalle, Böblingen, Stuttgart, Germany Nov 15, 1972. This is taken from source two of this show taped with a reel-to-reel deck but the taper did not have enough tape for the whole show. "A copy of this reel was distributed on tape and an nth generation copy was finally available as "The Return Of The Sons Of Nothing" on CD. Although an nth gen copy it became still famous for its great sound quality and extraordinary performance. To be honest, these are by far my favourite live versions of these three songs. The third track on that CD was named "Looking Through The Knotholes In Grannys Wooden Leg" because Roger announced "Echoes" that way.

"In 1998, the owner of the master reel decided to newly transfer the master tape to his computer and create a better version. In fact, he decided to also fix some problems, especially some whistling and shouting of the crowd. You may decide for yourself if you like that or not. Most notably the whistling guy at the start of "One Of These Days" is missing. Nevertheless, this recording is even superior to the already great "Return Of The Sons Of Nothing". Although the show is incomplete, this is definitely a must have." Ex AUD stereo.

Pink Floyd - The Devil's Inside [Furry Animal FAO19 2CD Torrent #93342] live at Palais des Expositions, Poitiers, France, Nov 29, 1972 on tour and playing DSOTM. "This show is one of the few French concerts from winter 1972, in terms of length probably the shortest concerts ever for Pink Floyd (if we don't consider short festival appearances). At that point in this European Winter Tour, Pink Floyd was near the end of a marathon touring year with 85 gigs played to date: two UK tours, two US tours, two European tours and even a series of concerts in Japan. Though this was the 79th and a half time they played the Dark Side of The Moon suite (including the aborted premiere in Brighton on January 20th) and though most of the album was already recorded, Dark Side was still undergoing some changes. Remember the album was not yet released, testify the friend of the taper asking during the set to the taper what the names of the songs were. "They're all unreleased!"

Typical of the 1972 performances, On The Run is still a nice guitar jam. What was previously entitled "The Mortality Sequence" began to sound allmost like the definitive Great Gig In The Sky. That fantastic piano composition of mr. Wright was still lacking the now famous vocals and included a more heavy sounding chorus portion. Since the band wasn't touring with backing vocalists or saxophonist Dick Parry, as for Great Gig in The Sky, Money and Us & Them sound rougher than the definitive versions. David Gilmour and Richard Wright deliver fantastic work to fill in the vocal and sax parts with their respective instruments. Particularly Wright seems to have fun playing with a wah-wah pedal effect on his organ for the Money solo.

The second set is not less typical for this tour, though it consists of older songs, familiar to the audience which sounds a little more receptive. First comes One of These Days, then Careful with That Axe, Eugene, one of the 5 or 6 known versions with Roger's Pictish rant, making the tune even more scary and mysterious before the culminating point of the climax. I surely would have shivered if I was there. As usually, the audience keeps asking for Echoes, Pink Floyd's masterpiece at that time. And that's just what they get! Nothing less than a 22 minutes long encore.

Performance-wise, it shows the band was a little tired. Here and there you'll spot some errors, especially during Echoes. Once Nick changes pattern a few bars too early, another time it's Dave who sounds a bit lost in his solo. Dark Side also sounds a bit too mechanical at times. Still we can't call this a weak show, but just not one of the most memorable.

Though the audience behaves most of the time, they are a little bit more noisy than usual. Nothing compared to the typical American crowd, but all that whistling between songs becomes a little annoying towards the end. Another source of noise are the taper and his friends. Not enough of the many interferences due to the equipment, you'll easily notice they are drinking wine from the bottle throughout the show. One of the guys in particular is very jovial "Il y a encore du rouge?" (Is there some red wine left?) ; "Assis bande de cons!" (Sit down bunch of morons) etc." VG+ AUD stereo.

>From http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/general/montreal77.html, one concert goer's account of what happened: "Pigs (3 Different Ones): ... As the song wound down, and they were doing a quiet vamp, Roger became... demonic. He called into the audience and pointed at a kid somewhere off to my right - just in front of him. He called the kid up to the stage, like you would a dog. "C'mon boy... come back... all is forgiven... just a bit further... there's a good boy..." I could see an exuberant teenager climb over the barricade and with the help of a roadie, he was lifted up to the edge of the stage. I'm sure he thought he was going to meet his idol... until Mr. Waters let fly with a wad of spit that was as remarkable for its volume as it was for its accuracy. "Sch-plaugh" - right in the kid's face! Dazed, the kid was tossed, like garbage, back over the bars into the darkness."
