THE '70s

Elvis Presley - Walk A Mile In My Shoes [Ft Baxter 1CD] live in Las Vegas, Jan 26 1970, opening night. The tape legend shows that the original mastertape had excessive microphone overload , so RCA chose not to release this show.VG SBD stereo? Muddy sound. Excellent performance not so great sound.

Elvis Presley - The Brightest Star On Sunset Boulevard: REMASTER [Gravel Road 2CD hungercity 5480] Rehearsals RCA studios Hollywood, July 24, 1970. Ex SBD stereo. This is the same as the Fort Baxter release. But this 2008 issue has a different mix [sound]. "I will hesitate to call it an upgrade because opinions differ, some prefer the sound of the old version, however to these ears this one is much more what you would expect from an official release - the sound is more three dimensional as opposed to the flat soundboard of the old FB releases. On the downside it is also significantly quieter, to the point where if you do a side-by-side comparison between the old and new you really have to crank it up to hear the new version. But then that's what volume dials were made for right?"

He took a rest in August and was due to perform again on August 17. He died the night before the concert resumed. The Final Curtain offers a look at fat Elvis, could he still rock? The six CDs cover the first long tour of 1977 from Feb to May. The DVDs cover the June tour.

DVD3 Complete concert at Omaha, NB, June 19, 1977.
DVD4 Complete concert at Rapid City, SD, June 21, 1977.
DVD5 Elvis In Concert: The CBS TV Special. This was broadcast after Elvis' death.
DVD6 Elvis is Dead, a collection of news reports, recorded August 1977.

The 6 DVD collection is an absolute must have, this includes 8mm footage with more than 2 hours of unreleased footage with the best sound possible on all footage. The 8mm DVD's are dual layered for maximum length with maximum quality and all have multi angle viewing. Included in this section is 36 minutes of unreleased footage from Indianapolis alone.

The DVD set also includes the CBS TV Special and is a very special treat for fans. For the first time ever, using a 1st Generation digital copy of a TV Station tape, (originally used to broadcast 'The Special' in October 1977) it has been re-mastered frame by frame and now finally, released to fans after 33 years to watch this in all its glory! We also have the most up to date release of the last 2 professionally filmed Elvis shows taped for the CBS TV Special in 1977. These were the shows that were recorded in Omaha and Rapid City.

These come from a tape source four generations better than previously used before. Not only have these 2 shows been painstakingly restored and re-mastered frame by frame, but for the first time, it will include new unreleased footage from Rapid City, making this show practically complete. In fact all that is missing is just a few of the introductions. The new footage found from Omaha now makes this show 100% complete!

All of the audio materials contained in the box are taken from 1st generation copies of original Soundboard/RCA tapes. Only Elvis' final show is from an audience recording.

The Orlando show was recorded in binaural with the band and orchestra on the right channel and the piano on the left. Elvis' voice is inaudible on this recording and was considered by many, a lost recording. The most sophisticated re-mastering technique was used to bring Elvis' voice to the foreground; otherwise, this show would have been lost forever!

With Madison from June 24th, this is the only complete Elvis show from 1977 to exist on soundboard and to this day, is the last known soundboard recording concert of Elvis Presley to be released. The material for this show was taken from an original master tape. Although the tape suffered some minor damage, we are very pleased with the results. Also for the first time we have Jerome 'Stump' Munroe on drums instead of Ronnie Tutt.

This set was released in early February, 2011 in a large boxset with a 400-page hardcover book. It appears to be an Australian release as the DVDs are all in PAL format. Video VG to Ex-; Audio VG+ to Ex SBD stereo.

Elvis Presley - Crazy The Funny Side of Elvis [no label 1CD Torrent: 67767] "A collection of Elvis' hilarious, often spaced out talking in between songs from the concert years. Let's remember that Elvis' own record label put out an album like this (called Having Fun With Elvis On Stage) while Elvis was still alive(!). And they were following the example set by Elvis' own manager who had put the album out first on his own label. However, those releases sort of cleaned everything up and hid the fact that Elvis was pretty bonkers most of the time (listening to it, Elvis stage patter sounds as dull & flat as any other Vegas act and you simply question the sanity of the people who would release an item like Having Fun With Elvis On Stage). But this Crazy disc shows it all, weird funny stream of consciousness ramblings from someone truly losing a grip." Mostly Ex SBD stereo. NOT FOR TRADE MP3 SOURCE

The content is taken from different soundboard bootlegs released in the last years of his career. "Also, now it is no longer a matter of "having fun" with Elvis, but rather "hear Elvis talk on stage". Elvis Presley - Memphis Project Vol 1 and 2 (ghostryder14 4CD demonoid 3209818 and 3210100) Each part is 2CDs. "This is a collection i've been working on for ages and still working on at the moment. i'm sending it out in parts because it's going to be a big collection. Elvis Presley's 1969 recording sessions at American Sound Studio in Memphis Tennessee are in my opinion his best work as a mature Artist. he was singing songs with meaning and with feeling for the first time in yrs. about 8-10 yrs ago The Purple Chick Label released a 10 cd collection called ''American Sound Sessions'' it's a great collection but since it's release there has been more material both official and unofficial made available. this collection i feel is both an update and upgrade to their work. i've used theirs and many more sources to put this together. too many to name and because i've edited quite a few to include the studio chatter between takes. The Purple Chick Label has about 15 takes of an instrumental called ''Come Out, Come Out'' i have not included theirs for two reasons. 1. the official instrumental track was not released until 2013 and sounds nothing like those takes in my opinion they are two different songs. my second reason is Elvis never laid down a vocal track and so i only included the official. my mindset is that it's not truly an Elvis recording if he's not a part of it. but it's still part of the session list so i feel that one take will do. ''saves room for me as well''. this is still not a 100% complete collection but i think it's the best their is as of May 2015." - ghostryder14. Ex SBD stereo/mono. DATA FILE ONLY

The evening show was than officially released on CD in 1985. In 2011, the same evening show was remastered by Vic Anesini and released on Sony's gigantic boxset Elvis' Complete Masters. The difference between the bootleg and the official releases is big on the afternoon show where the bootleg has better sound. For the evening show, the bootleg is louder than the official 2011 release has and sounds better than the 1985 CD. Ex SBD stereo. Sony's Elvis' Complete Masters is out-of-print and in the first place was ultra-expensive.

THE PRINCE LIST

Prince - The Rebels: Unreleased 1979 Album [no label 1CD] "The Rebels was a one-off recording project with Prince's band in the summer of 1979, not long after he had recorded the Prince album on his own… Nothing ever happened to The Rebels and it is uncertain how serious Prince was about the project or if it was ever presented to Warner Bros. Most likely, it was primarily a way to appease Dez Dickerson and André Cymone, and possibly other band members, who wanted to contribute more to Prince's music. In the end, no one in the band wrote better songs than Prince. The circulating Rebels recordings are not very impressive, sounding somewhat anonymous and unoriginal in comparison to Prince's own albums. Prince's band did not have a name until Purple Rain and as far as we know, The Rebels was never a nick-name for the band." Lineup: Prince; Dez Dickerson (guitar), André Cymone (bass), Gayle Chapman and Matt Fink (keyboard), and Bobby Z. (drums). The sessions were held at Mountain Ears Sound Studios, Boulder, Colorado, from July 10 to 21 1979. Ex SBD stereo. Info taken from www.uptown.se

Prince - Come: Original Test Pressing [no label 1CD demonoid 1488593] "Evidently made to resemble the March 1994 configuration of the Come album, this is an excellent release and an extremely clever idea. As is the problem with these releases, a number of the tracks are no different to the officially released versions - however the opening three songs are alternate versions. The disc begins with 'Poem' which would later become an extended version of 'Come' and includes portions which were lifted and made into segues on the album along with 'Orgasm'. 'Interactive' contains an intro of Prince laughing which is not present on the released version, but it is very short. 'Endorphinmachine' is far less cluttered than the released version with a more "live" sound. The remainder of the tracks do not differ from the released versions. The quality throughout is stunningly clear and certainly a match for the official release. Nice idea for a release, and very nicely presented." - Databank. Ex SBD stereo. NOT FOR TRADE.

Prince - The Undertaker: Unreleased Album 1994 [no label 1CD] This CD was NEVER released to the public and all copies were ordered detroyed by Prince but ... Prince originally intended to give this live CD away free with 1,000 copies of Guitar Player magazine but he was told by Warner Brothers that he couldn't, so he ordered them all to be destroyed. Before destroying, he ordered them all to be coated in plastic to make them unplayable. Tks 1-6 are from Undertaker. Recorded with the New Power Trio of Prince, Sonny T and Michael Bland, this is a powerful CD of rock/blues and Prince cuts loose, something he doesn't do too often on record. Tk 7-12 are from same sessions and all later released on Crystal Ball set. Ex SBD stereo.

Prince - The Flesh + U Gotta Shake Something 1985-86 (no label 1CD demon 3097880) The Flesh session on Dec 28 and 30, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Los Angeles, CA. Lineup: Prince - guitar and piano, Levi Seacer Jr. - bass, Wendy Melvoin - vocals, Sheila E. - drums, Eric Leeds - sax and Lisa Coleman - vocals.  Sessions continue Jan 5, 1986. According to "folklore", an album from these sessions was assembled on Jan 22, 1986 and titled The Flesh. "Featuring largely improvisational music, the Flesh sessions allowed Prince to stretch out musically and develop his musical vocabulary. The Flesh can be seen as a forerunner to Prince's later Madhouse project... Much like Madhouse, the musical focus of The Flesh was on instrumental music, basically funk jams with a distinct jazz flavour added by Eric Leeds, who was given the opportunity to contribute more actively to Prince's music. And much like Madhouse the plan was to release The Flesh album "anonymously" with few details about the participants and certainly no mention of Prince's involvement.

"The Flesh instrumentals remain unreleased, although part of the melody for 'Madrid' was later re-used by Eric for 'Andorra' on his 1991 Times Squared album. Additionally, some 30 seconds of  'Junk Music' made it into Under The Cherrymoon as background music (in the scene where Tricky and Christopher are arguing over what type of man Mary Sharon prefers). Further Sunset Sound sessions in January included work on several tracks for Jill Jones' album. Before leaving for L.A. in late January, Prince taped two songs for Dream Factory, 'Last Heart' and 'It's A Wonderful Day'." Ex- SBD stereo. DATA FILE ONLY

Prince - 30 Years of Unreleased Funk VOL3 (Pure Funk PF028/030 3CD 2007 tradersden 47935) "Overall this is something of a mixed bag. Take aside the fact Disc 1 has been misleadingly titled as an early configuration of Graffiti Bridge, and just concentrate on the quality in comparison to what was previously circulating - these outtakes wipe the floor with any other release thus far. The majority of the tracks included on Disc 2 simply were not circulating, and whilst 2/3rds feature no Prince involvement (other than the original score being written by him), their inclusion is valid and welcome - although perhaps not something many will give a repeat listen to. Disc 3 works fairly well as a collection of improved quality outtakes, but there is no cohesion and the 14 songs chosen span 14 years in 70 minutes - too far a leap for me." - thedatabank.org. Flying Burrito Brothers - Live At The Palamino 1969 [no label 2CD Torrent: 72042] live at The Palomino, North Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969.

"Almost 15 years ago, a friend told me that a co-worker of his had recorded the Flying Burrito Brothers in the late '60s. As the story goes, the guy was something of an audiophile and had recorded this show on reel to reel in stereo, of sorts, with one mic on the stage and another spread far apart.

"While the recording had circulated before, the guy went back to his original reels and did what was described as a "meticulous transfer." I don't know if it was done on a computer or on a standalone, but what was sent to me were two CD-Rs. I'm pretty sure they were straight off his DAT or the CD-R set he had made for himself direct from the reels. The quality of his transfer was superior to anything I had heard before. All edits, fades and such are his doing. The lineage here is Master Reel > DAT or CD-R > CD-R(1) > FLAC."

Upgrades just about everything until a new copy of the transcription disk turns up. Really great cranked up loud... There are two basic BBC In Concert versions of this gig. Procol Harum with Joe Cocker - John Liquorice Dead Rock And Roll Allstars [Living Legend LLRCD 038 1CD] 12 tracks includes one track with Cocker on vocals from 1969 Liquorice John Sessions. Lineup: Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, Dave Knights, Mathew Fisher, BJ Wilson, Joe Cocker, Leon Redbone and Jack Lancaster [Blodwyn Pig]. This lineup in 1970 was the pre-Procol Harum group, The Paramounts! "In 1989 an Italian company brought out a bootleg CD, purporting to contain the famous Liquorice John Session, on the Living Legend label. Although at least 30 songs were apparently recorded, of which 13 were mixed by Chris Thomas and aired on Radio in the mid-'70s, this CD contains only 11 cuts that could possibly have come from that session." - Procolharum.com.

Apparently the Joe Cocker track may have nothing to do with this session. The songs from this session includes many cover versions of rock 'n' roll hits. Here's why: "...so copying what I'd seen at Beatles sessions where they would go through their old favourites, I asked Procol to play anything they liked while we did what we needed to do. Gary was and is totally in his element singing this kind of stuff and I was quite happy to listen and not interrupt, even once we were ready to start the song we had to cut that night. From this was born the idea of hiring a studio for one night to put their old repertoire down." - producer Chris Thomas. Ex SBD/FM? stereo. This album was finally released in 1999 as Ain't Nothin' To Get Excited About and attributed to Liquorice John Death. The official lineup was Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, BJ Wilson & Chris Copping.
